چکیده

We present first results from the analysis of multi-epoch VLBI observations of the EGRET detected sources [9] in the CJ-F sample (Caltech Jodrell-Flat-spectrum, [10]). These objects form a subsample of 14 sources within the 293 AGN of the full CJ-F sample. 5 GHz VLBI snapshot observations of the CJ-F sources are continuously being performed in order to create a valid database for thorough statistical tests of pc-scale jet motion in AGN. All gamma-bright CJ-F AGN have been observed at least twice with the VLB A, which enables us to investigate jet component motions and paths. In particular, we concentrate on the analysis of those properties supposed to be essential for gamma-ray production, i.e., superluminal motion and bending. A paper discussing the possible relation between morphological changes and gamma-ray flaring/production is in preparation.

Identification of the Early Fermi Lat Gamma-ray Bright Objects with Extragalactic Vlbi Sources

A list of 205 γ-ray strong objects was reported recently as a result of a 3-month integration with the Large Area Telescope on board the Fermi Gamma-Ray Space Telescope. We attempted identification of these objects, cross-correlating the γ-ray positions with VLBI positions of a large all-sky sample of extragalactic radio sources selected on the basis of their parsec-scale flux density. The orig...

The Duty-cycle of Gamma-ray Blazars: a New Approach, New Results

We study several properties of blazars detected in the gamma-ray energy range by comparing the EGRET sources with a sample of radio blazars which can be considered possible gamma-ray candidates. We define three classes: non-gamma-ray blazars, blazars with quasi-steady gamma-ray emission, and gamma-ray blazars with substantial activity level. By combining the information of detected and candidat...

The "Far Site" Scenario for Gamma-ray Emission in Blazars: A View from the VLBI Observing Perspective

Since the birth of γ-ray astronomy, locating the origin of γ-ray emission has been a fundamental problem for the knowledge of the emission processes involved. Densely time sampled monitoring programs with very long baseline interferometry and the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, together with several other facilities at most of the available spectral ranges (including polarization measurements ...

Localization of the gamma-ray emission site using multi-waveband data and mm-VLBI

We perform monthly monitoring of a sample of γ-ray blazars with the VLBA at 43 GHz along with optical photometric and polarimetric observations and 2-week campaigns (once per year) with 3 VLBA epochs during each campaign. We demonstrate that the γ-ray variability is tightly connected with the variability in the mm-wave core, especially in quasars. We show that, for all sources in our sample for...

Gamma-ray Flares and Vlbi Outbursts of Blazars

A model is developed for the time dependent electromagnetic radio to gamma-ray emission of active galactic nuclei, specifically, the blazars, based on the acceleration and creation of leptons at a propagating discontinuity or front of a self-collimated Poynting flux jet. The front corresponds to a discrete relativistic jet component as observed with very-long-baseline-interferometry (VLBI). Equ...
